After we discussed the possible causes for the carpet stains with the customer, we proceeded to test the contaminated areas with the T1200 wet extraction carpet machine.
Conclusion
Test 1 was very successful in removing the carpet stains completely. However, we attempted the second test with only water and found the same results. After examining the recovered solution from the carpet, we notice large amounts of foam in the recovery tank, indicating excessive carpet cleaning chemicals which was extracted from the carpet during the cleaning process.
In many cases people try and clean the stains themselves not using the right carpet cleaning chemicals causing an excess of chemicals that leads to an increased stain. In this case we agreed that the carpet stains were a direct result from Tea and Coffee spills. The excessive foam in the extractor tank indicated that someone tried to remove the carpet stain themselves. This resulted in active chemical remaining on the carpet area increasing the stain vs removing it.
Not everyone has access to use the right system which involves a combination of the correct carpet detergent and extracting equipment. Contractors may have used excessive Traffic Lane detergent to emulsify and remove the stain. I certainly recommend that Traffic Lane carpet pre-spray for high traffic areas is needed for this task; however there is a certain system that has to be used when removing stains with these carpet cleaning chemicals - if the combination is not right it will increase the stain and not remove it.
