SORMA S.A. CONTRIBUTING TO CLEANER BEACHES SOUTH AFRICA

Johannesburg, South Africa - Sorma South Africa announced delivery of a Cherrington beachcleaner to Buffalo City municipality (East London). Buffalo City´s beachcleaner purchase was deemed necessary due to the state of the beaches in that area as dirty beaches are dangerous to the public.

South Africa´s coastline comprise of 2,800 km (1,800 miles) stretching from Walvis Bay in the west to Sodwana Bay in the East. It is the responsibility of local municipalities to keep beaches clean - no easy task with such a vast coastline. Effective mechanical beach cleaning is accomplished by lifting the sand from the beach, screening it, and then returning it to the beach, removing trash and debris in the process. Specialized sandsifting equipment is required in order to achieve this and the Cherrington model 3000 beachcleaner was chosen for this tedious task.

The Cherrington 3000 Beachcleaner/Sandsifter is a self-propelled, ride-on machine designed for smaller beaches, recreation areas and other sand surfaces. It's very easy to maneuver in small areas or along walls. It features a 6' foot HighLift dump.

Speaking at the official launch of the machine, Willie Maritz, the City´s manager for amenities, said it was important to have cleaner beaches for the benefit of the public. "Our beaches are dirty and that can be dangerous to users. It is our responsibility as a City to ensure that our beaches are safe. This machine will ensure that we keep our beaches clean."

He said the machine would be used at least six or seven times a year, covering all the beaches. "This machine basically will work everyday. One day we will be in Gonubie, then we will move to Eastern Beach, Nahoon and the others. We are going to ensure that all our beaches are clean for citizens and tourists."

There was the small matter of Blue Flag status as well. "For that we are using Gonubie as a pilot project. With our machine that beach will be in line to maintain its Blue Flag status," Maritz said.
